When asked about dentists who can  actually work with Implants, Dr Jonathan Abenaim replied: "There are some general dentists and specialists alike who’ve taken a lot of dental implant education and have attained degrees from the main implant organizations like the International Congress of Oral Implantology or the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

These dental implant organizations actually test dentists and award credentials to them. Those credentials will tell you if a dentist is qualified and comfortable handling your case surgically and prosthetically.

And what about you Dr Abenaim? : " I am a Board-Certified Diplomat of The International Congress of Oral Implantology.

Traditionally, oral surgeons and some periodontists have the surgical qualifications and cosmetic dentists have the prosthetic skills.

However, now there are a new breed of dental implant dentists that have both sets of skills.

This brings with it a number of advantages like single-dentist responsibility, avoidance of miscommunication issues between surgeon and cosmetic dentist, logistical simplicity for the patient and even lower procedure costs. In our office,

I have the skill and education to keep everything in-house. This allows patients not to worry about having fingers pointed from one dentist to the other. We control the whole procedure and take full responsibility for everything that we do in the office."

Does that have any impact on costs? "Absolutely, yes - two dentists aren’t getting paid, only one dentist is getting paid, and the fee is actually lower. "

Is that why more dentists do not do this?  " It’s actually very unusual for general dentists to place implants.

Only 2% of general dentists in the whole United States have placed implants.

Even less than that actually do that regularly in their practice."

Why did you decide to further your education and take all these tests?  " I decided to add that to my practice because I thought there was a great need, and we need to keep costs low to patients so that everybody can afford it.

By doing that in my office, believe it or not, we are able to control costs and allow patients to afford treatment."
